1. Introduction
Industrial visits give engineering students an opportunity to see how the concepts studied in the classroom are applied in real working environments. With this aim, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering organized an industrial visit to NeST Digital, Kochi, for 35 students of CSE A (2023-27 batch) on 8 October 2026 and 43 students of CSE B (2023-27 batch) on 9 October 2026. The visit exposed students to a corporate software environment, its development workspaces and current trends in the industry.
2. About the Organization
NeST Digital is a technology company located at NeST Tech Park, Edachira, near Infopark Road, Kochi. The organization works in software development and digital engineering and provides a professional workplace where teams build technology solutions for clients. A visit to such a facility helps students understand how software is planned, developed and delivered in an industry setting.
3. Objectives of the Visit
• To expose students to corporate infrastructure, software development units and technology workspaces.
• To familiarize students with industry practices and the working culture of a software organization.
• To provide insight into current engineering and digital transformation trends through interaction with industry professionals.
• To help students connect classroom learning with industry requirements and career opportunities.
4. Visit Details
The students, accompanied by the faculty members, reached NeST Digital on 8 October and 9 October 2026. On arrival, the group was received by the company representatives. The students attended a technical session, in which a member of the company presented an overview of the organization, its work and the trends in the industry. The students then toured the corporate infrastructure and the software development and technology workspaces, and interacted with the professionals to clarify their doubts about the industry and the skills it expects from engineering graduates.
5. Code of Conduct and Security Norms Followed
Before the visit, NeST issued its Security Instructions for Trainees/Faculties and its Dress Code Policy (Annexures A and B). The students and faculty followed these during the visit. In particular:
Following these norms gave the students first-hand experience of the professional discipline, confidentiality and conduct expected in a corporate workplace.
6. Learning Outcomes
Through the visit, students were able to:
7. PO and PSO Mapping and Justification
The visit is mapped to the following Programme Outcomes (PO) and Programme Specific Outcomes (PSO). Primary mapping indicates a direct and strong contribution, and secondary mapping indicates a supporting contribution. Student feedback on a five-point scale against these outcomes is collected through the form given in Annexure C.
| Outcome | Justification |
|---|---|
| PO5 Modern tool usage | Students saw the workspaces and technologies used in software development. |
| PO6 The engineer and society | Students saw how industry solutions serve client and business needs and the responsibilities that come with that. |
| PO8 Ethics | Students followed NeST’s code of conduct, confidentiality rule (no unauthorised photography), tag and security checks and dress code, which are the professional norms of the workplace (Annexures A and B). |
| PO9 Individual and team work | Students visited as a group and saw how software teams work together in a corporate setting. They also followed group conduct rules such as no crowding and moving only as directed. |
| PO10 Communication | Students attended the technical session, interacted with the industry professionals and documented the visit in this report. |
| PO11 Project management and finance | Students learned how software projects are planned, managed and delivered in a corporate environment. |
| PO12 Life-long learning | The session on industry and digital transformation trends showed which skills are in demand and why continuous learning is needed. |
| PSO1 Professional skills | Students saw how software systems run on real infrastructure, though this was a software-focused visit and not a hardware one. |
| PSO2 Design and development skills | Exposure to software development units and the delivery of solutions for industry needs matches this outcome directly. |
8. Conclusion
The industrial visit to NeST Digital was an informative and useful experience for the students of CSE A. It gave them practical exposure beyond the classroom and a clearer view of what the software industry expects. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering thanks the management and staff of NeST Digital for hosting the students and for their time and cooperation, and the accompanying faculty for coordinating the visit.
